Yuma native arrested in connection to murder | News – Arizona News

A Yuma native is in custody in San Luis Rio Colorado, Son., as the suspect in the killing of a taxi driver during a robbery, the Mexican border city’s police says.

The suspect, identified by Municipal Police only as 21-year-old “Daniel A.,” is accused of killing taxi driver Felipe Neri with a machete during a robbery Wednesday shortly after midnight at Constitution and Michocan streets, on the city’s west side.

Police arrested the suspect a block away from the location of the murder, based on information provided by a fellow taxi driver who came to Neri’s aid, police said.

In a news release, police identified the suspect as a Yuma native. A judicial reform law in Mexico bars police agencies from releasing full names of suspects pending conviction.

The release said police found blood-stained paper currency in the suspect’s pocket and confiscated a machete believed to be used in the attack.

Neri died at a San Luis Rio Colorado hospital following the attack.

Police said an arrest warrant had been issued in Arizona for Daniel A. for a firearms offense and for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
