MORGAN HILL — Firefighters are battling a 100-acre brush fire in the rolling hills west of Morgan Hill.
The blaze — dubbed the Tilton Fire — ignited at about 3 p.m. near Hale and Tilton avenues, said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford.
As of about 7 p.m., the fire had burned 100 acres and was 5 percent contained, said Crawford, adding that firefighters from Cal Fire, the Morgan Hill Fire Department and the South Santa Clara County Fire District had managed to stop its forward progress.
The fire is not threatening any structures and no injuries have been reported, Crawford said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hale Avenue is closed between Llagas Road and Tilton Avenue. Motorists also are being asked to avoid Sunnyside Avenue between West Edmundson Avenue and Watsonville Road.
In addition, bus service on Hale Avenue between Live Oak and Llagas avenues has been suspended.
