Within moments of the Watkins deal being announced, the Bills found Taylor another productive, young receiver, Jordan Matthews, sent from Philly to Buffalo in exchange for CB Ronald Darby. Matthews isn’t nearly as explosive as Watkins but he’s been more dependable and has the size and strength to help in the run game and work from the slot. He’s also entering a contract year, but the Bills additionally scored a third-rounder, giving them multiple picks in the first three rounds. Darby, a man-coverage specialist, is coming off a down sophomore campaign, after his 21 passes defensed as a second-round rookie in 2015 ranked fifth in the NFL. The Eagles badly needed cornerback help, and McDermott is prioritizing size and zone instincts, making Darby expendable and Gaines his likely replacement opposite White.
