Eight firefighters working for Chico firm injured in transport rollover – California News


Alturas >> Eight contract firefighters working for Chico-based Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. were injured Friday morning when their transport rolled over, the Modoc National Forest has reported.

The truck rolled about 7:45 a.m., Friday on Highway 299 near Cedarville, reportedly while avoiding a deer that darted onto the road.

Five of the injured were transported to medical facilities by ground; three by air ambulance.

Seven have been treated and released, and one firefighter is still undergoing medical evaluation. They are all reported to be from Chico or Paradise.

The crew was assigned to the Parker 2 Fire burning in the Warner Mountains east of Alturas.

At last report the fire was up to 7,949 acres and was 55 percent contained. There are 672 people assigned to the blaze.
