A Hermosa Beach man who agreed to work as a dog sitter for a vacationing Palos Verdes Estates man was charged Friday with stealing property from his home, and police detectives suspect there may be more victims.
Nephi Henderson, 36, faces two counts of residential burglary in connection with the crime that was caught on security camera over two nights at the residence in the 3600 block of Palos Verdes Drive North, police said.
The victim discovered the burglary when he returned home Aug. 5. The man reviewed his security video and watched two people entering his home on Aug. 3 and stealing property. Three people came back the next day and stole more property, police said.
The victim recognized one of the people on the video as Henderson, who he had hired through the website care.com. Henderson used the name “Nephi H” on the website.
Palos Verdes Estates detectives served a search warrant Wednesday at Henderson’s apartment in the 400 bock of Herondo Street, and found property stolen from the victim’s house, along with items taken in another burglary in another city, police said.
Detectives also recovered several purses and clothes and are trying to identify the owners. They suspect there might be more victims, police said. Detectives are working to identify the other burglars.
