Back to school night at the speedway

All school employees will be admitted free to Irwindale Speedway’s annual “Back To School Night” Saturday for a night of up-close NASCAR short track racing at 500 Speedway Drive.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with on-track autograph sessions starting at 5:45 p.m. Races begin at 7 p.m. Hot dogs, sodas and beer will be available for purchase. The event will feature late models, spec trucks and legend cars. School employees must bring school identification for free admission.

Donate blood

The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Inter-Community Hospital, 210 W. San Bernardino Road.

The Red Cross encourages blood donors to give in the final weeks of summer to help overcome a chronic summer blood shortage. To fully meet the needs of hospital patients in the coming days and weeks, donations are urgently needed from new and current donors.

Those who donated blood earlier this summer may be eligible to donate again. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and Power Red cells can be donated every 112 days.

As a special thank you, those who come out to give blood or platelets with the Red Cross now through Aug. 31 will be emailed a $5 Target gift card.
