1921 – 2017

Louis passed away on July 25, 2017, at the Willows Care Center in Willows, Calif.

Louis was born in Half Moon Bay to John and Louise Praeder, on June 29, 1921. He was a lifelong farmer and was one of the early pumpkin farmers in Half Moon Bay.

A World War II veteran, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific on the Japanese islands of Saipan and Okinawa.

Upon his return from the service, Louis continued farming with his dad on the family farm in Lobitas. He enjoyed auto racing and was a frequent visitor to the drag strip at the Half Moon Bay Airport and the Belmont Raceway. In the early 1950s, he constructed a go-cart race track on a field at the family farm where many of his friends joined him on weekends for some fun and excitement.

After Louis retired to Orland, Calif., he continued to grow vegetables and fruit to sell at the farmers market and share with family and friends. He enjoyed trout fishing, the local high school football games, and auto racing in the Orland area.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Praeder and Louise Praeder; also two older brothers, Jack Praeder, of Half Moon Bay, and Harold Praeder, of Santa Rosa. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Patrick) McDougall, nephews Michael McDougall ,of Santa Cruz, and Patrick McDougall III ,of Half Moon Bay, and several great-nieces and great-nephews in the Santa Rosa and San Diego areas.
