LSU defensive line luck it’s anchored by LaCouture | – Connecticut News

In the SEC, games are won in the trenches. With the return of Arden Key and Rashard Lawrence, LSU is looking stacked at defensive line.  But their secret weapon is fifth-year senior Christian LaCouture, who adds much more than skill to that position group.

After a preseason injury ended his 2016 campaign before it began, LaCouture found a new role as an assistant coach for the Tigers.

“They’re my teammates, they’re my best friends, but they also knew when I went out there, I was a coach.  I was going to try to implement what I saw in film.   When coach O gave me that interim assistant d line coach thing, I was very excited.  For a while, I didn’t know what to do.  When coach O got the job he said, no you’re going to be here every day.  He wanted me to be a part of the team,” said LaCouture.

During that year, LaCouture and the interim head coach Ed Orgeron developed a father-son type bond.  And when LaCouture’s injury healed, Orgeron made sure he would still be a part of the team.

“I was able to recruit him back.  He was gone.  I was able to take one last shot.  I brought him out to a balcony overlooking the field and I poured my heart out to him.  I told him why I thought it was best for the LSU Tigers and why I thought it was best for him,” explained Orgeron,

With one final year in the Purple and Gold, LaCouture says it’s national championship or bust.
