HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A man who was married to two women has been indicted, along with one wife, in the deaths of the other wife and four family members.
Christopher Henderson and Rhonda Carlson were indicted by a Madison County grand jury in Alabama, WAFF-TV reports .
They face 37 total counts of capital murder in the deaths of five people. The multiple counts cover charges of arson and burglary that resulted in the deaths, including that of an unborn child.
Christopher Henderson was getting a divorce from one victim, Kristin Henderson, who was pregnant with his baby, court documents show.
Christopher Henderson and Carlson shot and stabbed the victims before setting their home on fire in August 2015, according to authorities.
The victims included Kristen Henderson’s 8-year-old son, Clayton Chambers, her mother, Jean Smallwood, and her 1-year-old nephew, Eli Sokolowski. The Huntsville-area house was engulfed in flames with the victims’ bodies inside when authorities arrived.
Authorities immediately identified Christopher Henderson and Carlson as suspects. Surveillance video had shown them entering the house with a gas can then leaving before it caught fire. Authorities also found a gun in Carlson’s truck.
Prosecutors declined to comment on the indictment.
It’s unclear if Henderson or Carlson has an attorney.
