Man linked to attempted kidnapping, carjacking at Yermo gas station arrested – News – DesertDispatch.com – California News

YERMO — Authorities put a 41-year-old man behind bars after he allegedly assaulted and tried to kidnap a woman at a Chevron gas station here early Thursday morning.

Mark James Wilson, of Newberry Springs, was arrested following the incident, which occurred at the Yermo Chevron in the 35000 block of Ghost Town Road Thursday morning. Wilson is a convicted felon out on parole, according to a statement from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.

Barstow Sheriff’s station deputies responded to the gas station at 11:15 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports that a man, later identified as Wilson, and the victim, a 64-year-old woman, were “fighting in the parking lot.”

“The reporting party told dispatch Wilson tried to force the victim into the vehicle,” officials stated. “Wilson was observed hitting the victim several times and pulled her hair, then fled the gas station in the victim’s vehicle.”

Deputies contacted the woman, who had “visible injuries” at the gas station before she was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No further updates on her condition were available Friday. They also checked the surrounding area for Wilson and the vehicle, with negative results, officials said.

Wilson was eventually found at his home, listed as being in the 44700 block of Temescal Street, on Thursday afternoon, where he was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, carjacking and violation of parole. Officials said the victim’s stolen vehicle was also found and returned to her.
