LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Jake Robson drove in Luis Valdes with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, leading the Lakeland Flying Tigers to a 3-1 win over the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday.
Zac Houston struck Grenny Cumana out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.
The sacrifice fly by Robson started the scoring in a three-run inning and gave the Flying Tigers a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Cam Gibson hit an RBI single and then scored on a double by Mike Gerber.
Clearwater answered in the next half-inning when Derek Campbell hit an RBI single, driving in Cornelius Randolph to get within two.
Lakeland right-hander Kyle Dowdy (8-9) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on seven hits over eight innings. Opposing starter McKenzie Mills (0-1) took the loss in the Florida State League game after allowing three runs and five hits over six innings.
Campbell doubled and singled for the Threshers.
