NORWALK — The city of Norwalk’s Household Hazardous Waste Day is being held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at Norwalk High School, 23 Calvin Murphy Drive. The event will be held rain or shine.
Examples of household hazardous waste include: gasoline, kerosene, auto care products, oil-based or alkyd paints, stains, thinners, spray paints, insect killer, weed killer, fungicides (rose dust), chemical fertilizer, garden lime, cleaners, polishes, mercury thermometers, pet care products, and pool chemicals.
Items not accepted include: latex paint, motor oil and antifreeze, electronics, cooking oil, ammunition, flares, explosives, asbestos, CFL bulbs, medical or biological waste and radioactive materials.
Latex paint should be dried completely and thrown in the trash. Motor oil, antifreeze, electronics and cooking oil can be brought to the Norwalk Transfer Station — Norwalk residents only. Call Norwalk Police Department at 203-854-3000 for ammunition, flares and explosives. Contact the state Department of Public Health or the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for questions about asbestos. Unbroken CFL bulbs should be disposed of at Home Depot or Lowes.
