Back to school drive
Sowing Seeds for Life is asking for the community’s help in collecting school supplies for distribution to kids in need.
Each year Sowing Seeds for Life’s food pantry provides low-income children with the educational tools they need to start the school year, and this year the need is even larger. The nonprofit is hoping to supply 200 children with everything from backpacks to markers.
Supplies most in need in addition to backpacks and markers are pens, pencils, paper, binders, crayons, paperclips, Post-it notes, tape, rulers, notebooks and calculators.
For more information or to donate supplies, contact Fran Robertson at 909-293-7735, ext. 232 or Frobertson@Sowingseedsforlife.org.
The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Montebello Bus Line, 400 S. Taylor Ave.
The Red Cross encourages blood donors to give in the final weeks of summer to help overcome a chronic summer blood shortage. To fully meet the needs of hospital patients in the coming days and weeks, donations are urgently needed from new and current donors.
Those who donated blood earlier this summer may be eligible to donate again. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and power red cells can be donated every 112 days.
As a special thank you, those who come out to give blood or platelets with the Red Cross now through Aug. 31 will be emailed a $5 Target gift card.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, go to www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
