Passenger killed when car strikes cow in Clements – News – recordnet.com – California News

CLEMENTS — A 69-year-old man died Friday after the car he was in crashed into a cow on Clements Road, south of Stampede Road.

The victim, a man from Stockton who was not identified, was fatally injured about 8:40 p.m. Friday when a 74-year-old man driving a 2000 Nissan was unable to avoid a cow that moved onto the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Three other passengers were injured.

The CHP said the driver was going south on Clements Road at about 65 mph when the crash happened.

Three loose cows were grazing along the east roadway edge of Clements Road and when the driver approached the cows, he began passing them, according to the CHP. All three cows then began walking from the east roadway edge directly across the road and into the path of the Nissan.

The driver was unable to avoid one of the cows.

CHP said the force of the collision caused major damage to the right front passenger area of the Nissan, which is where the victim was sitting.

The driver, who was not identified, and the three other passengers in the car suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to an area hospital.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered to be factors in the crash, the CHP said.
