PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) — Brayan Pena singled three times, scoring a couple of runs while also driving home two as the Omaha Storm Chasers topped the Iowa Cubs 6-5 on Friday.
Corey Toups singled twice, also stealing a base for Omaha.
Kyle Zimmer allowed two runs, but struck Chris Dominguez out with runners on first and third to end the game for his third save of the season.
Omaha started the scoring with a big second inning, when it scored four runs, including a two-run single by Pena and an RBI single by Toups.
Trailing 5-3, the Cubs cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Stephen Bruno hit an RBI single, driving in Dominguez.
The Storm Chasers tacked on another run in the eighth when Raul Mondesi drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Pena.
Iowa saw its comeback attempt come up short after Mike Freeman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring John Andreoli in the ninth inning to cut the Omaha lead to 6-5.
Omaha left-hander Onelki Garcia (6-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on six hits over five innings. Opposing starter Seth Frankoff (1-7) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after allowing four runs and four hits over four innings.
Andreoli singled three times, scoring two runs for the Cubs. Bruno singled three times, also stealing a base.
