Eastbound lanes of state Route 905 in Otay Mesa were shut down Saturday night while police tried to talk a man out of jumping from an overpass.
Other motorists reported a man in a hooded sweatshirt looking over the side of the highway bridge above Picador Boulevard and Smythe Avenue shortly before 8 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
San Diego police and CHP officers blocked off the streets, on-ramps and eastbound highway lanes as the man threatened to jump, authorities said. Police crisis negotiators headed that way.
Roadways remained closed close to midnight as negotiating efforts continued.
