Bridgeport event to raise money for homeless veterans – Connecticut News

BRIDGEPORT — The third annual stair climbing challenge is scheduled to take place next Saturday. All funds raised will go toward helping homeless veterans, the Homes for the Brave organization said.

Step Up for the Brave Stadium Stair Climb Challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard rain or shine. The purpose of the community event is to raise money for Connecticut’s homeless veterans, a press release said.

“This stadium stair climb is our signature fundraiser, and it brings awareness to the hardships experienced by those who have served our country,” said CEO and Executive Director of Homes for the Brave Vince Santilli.

Individual climbs or teams will participate in a guided course at their own pace. Participants will follow a closed course of 1,000 stairs. The event allows those age 8 and older to participate in the climb.

Participants must pay a $35 registration fee — $20 with a student ID. The fee includes a light breakfast before the event and a t-shirt.

Check in for the event will begin at 8 a.m. and participants will begin the stair climb at 9 a.m. Awards for the event will be presented at 11 a.m.

Those interested at participating or sponsoring can register at HomesForTheBrave.org.

Homes for the Brave is a not-for-profit organization, created through Applied Behavioral Rehabilitation Institute, that dedicates time to providing vocational training, safe housing and life skills and coaching to homeless individuals — most of them being veterans.
