Crean Lutheran football coach and star player talk about Saints’ 28-21 victory over Beckman (video) – Orange County Register – California News

Crean Lutheran’s first football game against an Irvine public school team turned out to be a special one Thursday, Sept. 14.

The Saints held on for a 28-21 nonleague victory over Beckman at Irvine Stadium.

Crean Lutheran coach Matt Bowman talked about the importance of the victory after the game.

The Saints’ Isaac Holbrook, who had two interceptions, including one for a touchdown and a 13-yard TD pass from Michael Berelowitz, also talked about the win.

Berelowitz, in his second appearance at quarterback this season, passed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Starting quarterback Jack Eliot suffered an injury in last week’s game against Aquinas.

Beckman (1-2) cut the lead to 28-21 on a 17-yard TD pass from quarterback Nick Hill to Mikael Mian with 2:47 left in the third quarter.

But Crean Lutheran (2-2) was able to hold on.

Crean Lutheran’s defense had five interceptions and critical penalties on defense cost Beckman in the second quarter.

Omar Abdullah had 114 yards rushing and a 3-yard TD run for Beckman.
