Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced today that a woman has been charged with having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a teen over the span of three years at Lakewood High School.
Mary Jahn, 52, of Lakewood has been charged with nine felony counts — four counts of sexual penetration by foreign object, three counts of lewd act upon a child and two counts of oral copulation of a person younger than 18.
Jahn will be arraigned this afternoon, Thursday, in the Long Beach branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Prosecutors said they would ask that bail be set at $750,000.
Deputy DA Troy Davis, who works with the Victims Impact Program, said Jahn was a Lakewood High teacher when the incidents are alleged to have occurred.
In July 2008, the defendant allegedly began having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student, the prosecutor said. The sexual molestation reportedly continued until July 2011.
The victim, now an adult, alerted authorities about the abuse. Long Beach Police Department detectives investigated further, and arrested Jahn Wednesday, Sept. 13.
If convicted of all the charges, Jahn faces a maximum of 8 years and 4 months in prison. She also would have to register as a lifetime sex offender.
