KNOXVILLE — Tennessee coach Butch Jones said the Vols got out of Saturday’s 42-7 win over Indiana State relatively unscathed.
That doesn’t mean UT will have it’s full compliment of players when it travels to Gainesville (3:30 p.m.; TV: CBS) to play Florida on Saturday.
Jones gave an injury update Wednesday, saying that linebacker Austin Smith, defensive back Baylen Buchanan and tight end Eli Wolf won’t play against the Gators. Jones also said that safety/kick returner Evan Berry is questionable for the conference opener.
“Everyone else we expect to play,” Jones said Wednesday. “Evan Berry is probably right now questionable, so we’ll see if he’s able to do some things today. But everyone else should be available and should make the trip barring anything else happening at the tail end of the week.”
Both Smith and Buchanan were scratches against the Sycamores. Wolf was hurt in Saturday’s game with what Jones called an ankle sprain this week.
Smith, a redshirt sophomore, was slated to be Tennessee’s strong side linebacker before the start of the season, but suffered a knee injury three days before the season opener against Georgia Tech. Buchanan was taken off in the 42-41, double overtime win over the Yellow Jackets with a shoulder injury.
Jones said earlier in the week that receivers Latrell Williams, Tyler Byrd and Josh Smith would all dress out against Florida. Smith, a redshirt senior, hasn’t played this season, while Byrd and Williams missed the Indiana State game.
