RIDGEFIELD—The Board of Education’s School Start Times Committee will host an informational event Monday to present the latest research on the subject.
Jennifer Papa Kanaan, a physician certified in sleep medicine, will speak about the importance of adolescent sleep and how it is being applied to the issue of healthy school start times in Ridgefield. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the East Ridge Middle School auditorium.
In May, the district hired the organization EdAdvance and decided to create a School Start Times Steering Committee to oversee the project. The committee is tasked with looking into how to change high, middle and elementary school start times to better align with students’ sleep schedules.
The school board is expected to vote on the issue in October with the goal of changing start times for the 2018-19 school year.
