ACAMPO — A skydiver was clinging to life in an area hospital Thursday afternoon after making a hard landing with a failed parachute near the Skydive Lodi Parachute Center.

ACAMPO — A skydiver was clinging to life in an area hospital Thursday afternoon after making a hard landing with a failed parachute near the Skydive Lodi Parachute Center.

The unidentified man, described as an experienced skydiver, hit the ground in a commercial trailer sales yard about a mile north of the designated landing zone.

An employee of The Trailer Specialist, 24155 N. Highway 99 in Acampo, said the skydiver hit a trailer on the way down, then landed hard on the ground. He remained alive as medics and first responders from the Woodbridge Fire District arrived to transport him to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

He remained hospitalized as of late Thursday afternoon, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

The employee said his parachute was out and that helped to slow him down.

A photographer driving through the area witnessed the jump and knew the skydiver was in trouble.

“I was driving home from Sac and saw him spinning out of control in the sky. So scary,” Jessica Reyes posted on social media.

A woman who spoke for The Trailer Specialist but declined to identify herself said, “The staff is very distraught. We hope this has a good outcome and he will recover.”
