Taking a look what area athletes are doing at the college level. – California News

Every week we will taking a look at what local athletes are doing at the college level. We take a look at football, volleyball and both men’s and women’s soccer.


Tom Hays, Central Washington: According to the CWU website, Hays a former Bobcat, has appeared in two games but hasn’t run or thrown a pass. This week, the Vikings play at Azuza Pacific Saturday at 6:30.

Jet Hampton, Butte College: The former Bobcat has 11 tackles, eight solo in two games for Butte. He has also recorded two sacks and recovered a fumble. On Saturday, Butte hosts Chabot at 1 p.m.

Trent Darms, Shasta College: The former PV starter has played one game for the Knights. He was 21-47 for 195 yards, 1 TD. This week, Merced at 5 p.m.

Brandt Hughes, Butte College: Another former Viking QB has appeared in two games. He’s 2-3 for 11 yards.


Brianna Souza, Butte College: The former Viking leads Butte with 107 kills and blocks with nine. Butte’s next home match is Oct .11 against Redwoods.

Kristina Joyce, Butte College: The PV grad leads Butte with 367 assists and is third in digs with 76.

Brooke Fogel, Chico State: Another former Viking leads the Wildcats with 5 digs a set and is third in assists with 30.

Nicole Eseaff, Los Angeles State: The former Viking setter, now a senior with the Eagles, leads the team 144 assists. She plays tonight against Fogel and Chico State, starting at 7 p.m.

Sarah Novak, Butte College: Novak is fourth on Butte with 74 digs.

Jacey Cornell, Butte College: The former Panther has 23 kills in 11 matches for Butte.
