Cougars win shutout, extend record to 3-0 | – California News

The Half Moon Bay High School Cougars continued what has been an impressive start to the season on Friday. The team celebrated the opening of its new field then got right to work, running up the score while holding Capuchino scoreless in a 52-0 route.

Half Moon Bay got off to a fast start. With 7:47 left in the first quarter, Chase Hofmann opened the scoring by rushing for an 8-yard touchdown. A quick pass from Gavin Tomberlin to Hayden Von Almen for the 2-point conversion gave the Cougars an 8-0 lead. Then, after the Mustangs were forced to punt, the Cougars struck on the first play of their second drive. Tomberlin threw a 73-yard touchdown pass to classmate Von Almen, putting the Cougars up 15-0.

The Cougar defense put constant pressure on Capuchino, with Hofmann, JoJo Weinberger, Jonathan Carrillo, Jake Quosig and Bobby Lester all contributing sacks. The Mustangs converted on only one of nine third downs.
