MIDDLETOWN >> Two men were arrested Friday after officers say they found a “large volume” of crack cocaine and heroin in their possession.
Bashaun Brown, 38, of Hemlock Court, Cromwell, and Jesse Vernick, 34, of Ponsett Road, Higganum, were charged with destruction of property, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell. Brown was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, while Vernick was charged with failure to illuminate rear marker plate, police said.
Police conducted a motor vehicle stop for the alleged failure to illuminate the rear marker plate and found Brown — the passenger — and Vernick — the driver.
Officers observed drug paraphernalia to smoke crack cocaine in plain view, according to the report. They then searched the interior of the vehicle and found 10.77 grams of heroin in glassine envelopes, 5.7 grams of crack cocaine in small plastic bags and a blue glass bong mouth piece, police said.
In Brown’s wallet, the police also found 25 Suboxone single sublingual film strips, officers said.
Due to the “large volume” of crack cocaine and heroin, police believed Brown and Vernick were selling the drugs. Both were held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
