Detectives on Friday identified the suspect in the fatal shooting of a La Puente woman as she left work at an Industry restaurant.
Investigators said 57-year-old Martin Godinez, who is known to frequent La Puente, is the ex-husband of the victim’s partner.
Investigators allege Godinez shot 27-year-old Katy Nosic in the rear parking lot of the Golden Corral, 17635 Castleton St., shortly after 10:20 p.m. Sept. 4. He allegedly drove off in a minivan after the shooting.
Nosic died at the scene.
Lt. Joe Mendoza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said Martin Godinez was upset with the relationship between his former wife and Nosic. He said detectives have been looking for the suspect but could not find him.
“(We) think somebody is helping him,” Mendoza said.
Jaime Godinez said in a telephone interview Thursday that she has known Nosic almost three years. She added they were engaged to be married.
The two women met while working at a McDonald’s on Amar Road and Azusa Avenue, Jaime Godinez said. At the time, she said she and her husband were having problems. Nosic was the friend who supported her.
“It grew from there. We had our struggles to be together. I filed for divorce,” Jaime Godinez said.
She said Nosic proposed to her six months ago. Nosic called her “wifey” and she called her “baby girl.”
They were recently staying with a friend of Nosic. It was temporary since they were saving money to rent a room or a studio, according to Jaime Godinez.
