The Mendocino County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating a reported explosion at an illegal marijuana extraction lab in Willits, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
The Little Lake Fire Department responded to the explosion Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Cropley Lane, the site of a 30,000-square-foot industrial metal-sided building.
The building was not on fire, but there was a large hole in the roof caused by an unknown object shooting through the ceiling. No one was in the building at the time of the explosion, the MCSO reported.
The building apparently contains a “highly sophisticated” marijuana extraction lab, and several greenhouses on the property contained a few hundred marijuana plants, according to the MCSO. The property had reportedly been issued a cannabis cultivation permit by the Mendocino County Department of Agriculture.
However, Major Crimes Task Force agents are investigating the presence of the marijuana extraction lab. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the MCSO Tip Line at (707) 234-2100.
