The Fontana City Council approved on Sept. 12 an ordinance that allows the amending of the zoning and development code to permit electric fences in light industrial and general industrial areas as well as in several industrial parks throughout the city.
The vote was 3-2, with Councilmembers Jesse Sandoval and Michael Tahan voting no.
The ordinance amends the Southwest Industrial Park Specific Plan to allow electric fences at the Speedway Industrial, Freeway Industrial, Slover West, Slover East, Slover Central, Jurupa North and Jurupa South land use districts.
According to Nathan Leaphart, CPA/chief financial officer for Electric Guard Dog, which proposed the idea, electric fences save lives, help police fight crime, and save businesses lots of money in losses.
