Sporting hard hats and wielding golden shovels, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center officials, Salida Hospital District directors and other dignitaries ceremonially broke ground on the new hospital expansion Wednesday afternoon.
Since 2008, HRRMC has added more than 200 employees to its payroll as well as 13 new services in the past three years.
The expansion will provide additional space for providers and staff and allow for better access to services for the community, a press release stated.
Many of the hospital’s providers now located off campus will relocate into the new medical office building that will be part of the hospital.
