Capacity crowd expected at community center
Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) will hold a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center.
“Congressman Huffman’s team has made it clear that this town meeting is a general one,” said Sebastopol Community Cultural Center Executive Director Diana Rich. “They’re encouraging any and all topics be raised.”
Huffman has been busy since Congress recessed after Labor Day. After Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the rescinding of the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Huffman requested a hearing on the DREAM Act. He also attended a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, according to his Facebook page.
“We had a bill backed by the gun lobby that would deregulate the sale of silencers, weaken the rules for transporting guns across state lines and prohibit some ammunition from being classified as armor-piercing,” Huffman wrote on Facebook.
Huffman has been an active and outspoken voice against the current presidential administration. On Sept. 7 he held a press conference on Capitol grounds demanding that Congress “choose a side” against white supremacy. During the Women’s March in January, Huffman walked alongside Sonoma County protesters in Santa Rosa.
Rich highly suggests carpooling to the event, as it is expected to fill up quickly.
