SARATOGA – Leigh scored 21 straight points in the final 10 minutes of its game Friday night against host Saratoga, erasing a 13-point deficit to win 28-20.
It was the third straight fourth-quarter comeback for the Longhorns (3-0).
“The nice thing is … this is what we’ve been doing. We’re scoring late, and it’s nice to be able to rely on the guys coming through at the end of the game,” Leigh coach Kyle Padia said.
Leigh trailed Saratoga (0-4) 20-7 entering the fourth quarter. But Longhorns quarterback Kyle Albert connected with Niklas Cooper on a 48-yard touchdown pass, and Tyler Paik’s line-drive point-after-touchdown kick narrowed the score to 20-14 with 10 minutes remaining.
Fourteen seconds later, Leigh had the lead for good. The Longhorns’ Martin Olson picked off a Nikolas Rositano pass and returned the interception 39 yards for a touchdown. Paik’s PAT kick gave Leigh a 21-20 lead.
Leigh scored the final touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run by Albert with 1:25 left. Saratoga proceeded to drive to the Leigh 30, but a sack by Leigh’s Anthony Nguyen ended the game.
Albert threw for 209 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Teammate Mason Peterson caught four passes for 104 yards, including a 63-yard, first-quarter touchdown.
Rositano completed 36 of his 50 passes for 339 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Teammate Harrison Fong caught 10 passes for 124 yards, including touchdown grabs of 10 and 26 yards.
