A 22-year-old man shot himself with a single gunshot to the head this afternoon after fleeing the scene of a domestic disturbance according to Hermosa Beach Police Officer Robert Higgins.
A police officer responded to the family disturbance in Hermosa Beach at approximately 4:30 p.m. at a home at 22nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway. The man had already fled in his car. After the first officer radioed for help, another Hermosa Beach officer chased the man eastbound on Gould Avenue, according to Higgins. After turning southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, officers pulled the man over. That’s when the man pulled a gun and shot himself.
The incident prompted closure of the southbound lanes on Pacific Coast Highway near Artesia Boulevard. Northbound lanes were open.
The officer witnessed the shooting and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
