Elk Grove police on Sept. 12 arrested a 47-year-old man who allegedly had two homemade explosives in his bedroom. Officers evacuated his Camden neighborhood while a Sacramento County sheriff’s explosives team removed the live devices.
Edward Henderson was arrested on explosives, ammunition, and probation violation charges.
Elk Grove police spokesperson Christopher Trim reported that a witness contacted them about the suspect being armed and possibly kidnapping his wife.
Officers went to his home on the 8800 block of Mandalay Way and saw that he left the scene. Trim said that detectives used his license plate number and they later found Henderson’s car parked near the corner of Osage and South Watt avenues in south Sacramento. They arrested him without incident. Detectives reportedly determined that he did not kidnap his wife.
Trim said that officers discovered two homemade bombs and ammunition in Henderson’s bedroom. They then evacuated the house and several neighbors. The explosives team later determined that the bombs were live and they secured them. No motive for the explosives were reported, as of press time.
Henderson was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
