RUHS alumni house gets makeover thanks to volunteers | Redondo Beach – California News

A much-need makeover has begun on one of the oldest buildings on the Redondo Union High School campus known as the alumni house thanks to donations from the community and local home builder The Morgan Group.

While the rest of the RUHS campus underwent changes in recent years, the alumni house first built in 1905 had fallen into disrepair.

That’s when a group of alumni led by Carl Dreizler and others on the alumni house board gathered donations for the project over an 18-month period. Still short on funds, the group turned to the nonprofit Sharefest, which connected them to The Morgan Group, a local home builder that was able to reduce the costs of materials and labor. Without their help, the project likely would not have started for another three years, Dreizler said.

“We do numerous remodels each year,” said Richard Steigner, senior asset manager for The Morgan Group. “No project has been more special than the RUHS Alumni House. Our employees and contractors are either donating their services or working for a fraction of their normal rate.”

Renovations on the alumni house, including nearly everything except the foundation, siding and the frame, are expected to be completed by Oct. 6 when a ribbon-cutting will be held prior to the varsity football homecoming game.

“The opening of the RUHS Alumni House provides us with the opportunity to celebrate our incredible history, display our amazing memorabilia and celebrate our wonderful and supportive Sea Hawk alumni,” said Superintendent Steven Keller.
