NORWALK — An unidentified male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in a hit and run accident on Martin Luther King Drive Friday night, police said.
Norwalk police responded to reports of a pedestrian lying seriously hurt in the street at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Lowe Street around 9:14 p.m. Friday.
According to police reports, police found a male lying in the street suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries when they arrived on scene. The man was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said that the name of the victim will be withheld until his next of kin can be notified.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian had fled from the scene before police could arrive, police said.
Officers later tracked down the vehicle that they suspect was involved in the hit and run nearby on Ely Avenue, though police said that there is currently no suspect in custody.
However, Norwalk police have “significant leads” that they are following up on, according to Lt. Paul Resnick, a police spokesman.
A stretch of Martin Luther King Drive, from Knapp Street to Lowe Street, was shut down for several hours following the accidents, so that the department’s accident investigator and Crime Scene Unit could gather evidence.
Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the accident, or has any information about it, should contact Officer Chris Wasilewski at 203-854-3035.
