The Pine Bluff City Council on Monday will consider resolutions to fund radios for the police department, playground equipment for Lake Saracen, and work on the first phase of the Pine Bluff Plaza when they meet at 5:30 p.m.
At a meeting of the council’s Public Safety Committee earlier this week, Police Chief Ivan Whitfield said the department needs to replace both the aging radios in cars and their hand held radios because Motorola, the current brand used, cannot guarantee repairs on the current radios, which are 12-to-15 years old.
According to Whitfield, the cost for the new radios, including 60 new modems, power cables connections, antennas, sirens, face plates and installation, will be $633,338. The proposed resolution said the committee reviewed the proposal and recommends that the full council approve it and authorize the mayor to sign a contract to acquire the equipment.
A second resolution to be considered will authorize the mayor to sign a contract with Game Time/Cunningham Recreation for the playground equipment at Lake Saracen. The total costs of the equipment is listed at $274,997.89 and includes all labor, equipment, permits, licenses and taxes.
A third resolution authorizes the mayor to sign a contract with CDI Contractors, LLC of Little Rock to perform work on the first phase of the Pine Bluff Plaza, to be located at 601 S. Main St., across the street from the site of the new library.
