Libraries lend themselves to connections | Books – California News

In many communities, the library has evolved from a hallowed hall where texts await quiet contemplation to a vibrant, thriving hub that provides after-school snacks as well as resources for those thirsting for knowledge.

In that spirit, civic leaders from the Coastside will be on hand to discuss this phenomenon as they take part in a panel discussion called “Making Connections: Libraries at the Heart of Community.”

Lenny Mendonca, co-founder of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Co., will moderate the discussion. Half Moon Bay City Councilman Rick Kowalczyk and Cabrillo Unified School District Superintendent Jane Yuster will join Alex Castillo and Cameron Johnson in what is sure to be a lively discussion.

“I think the library is the fabric for the community family,” said Rick Kowalczyk, who was mayor of Half Moon Bay when construction of the local library commenced.

Making Connections: Libraries at the Heart of Community is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. located at 390 Capistrano Road in Half Moon Bay.
