Two Lake Havasu City residents were arrested after a traffic stop on Sept. 7 in the 3200 block of Arapaho Drive when police found drugs and a shaved down Toyota key during a search.
Police pulled over the car when it didn’t signal to make a turn, a police report stated a detective had been working a burglary detail in the area. They discovered the car’s registration was expired and the driver’s license was also suspended.
The driver, Bruce A. Waugh, 50, was arrested for driving on a suspended license, a failure to appear warrant, both misdemeanors, along with burglary, a felony. Police say he had a shaved down key in his possession, which is sometimes used by car thieves to gain entry into older style vehicles.
The passenger, Sonya R. Lopez, 34 was arrested on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, both felonies. After discovering the key, police also found a small amount of methamphetamine and a pipe in her waistband. Lopez reportedly told police it was her birthday the next day and she wanted to get high.
