US aviator who helped form Israeli Air Force dies at 94 – California News

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An American aviator who was among those who helped form the Israeli Air Force and served in Israel’s first fighter squadron has died. Mitchell Flint was 94 years old.

His son, Michael Flint, says his father died Saturday in Los Angeles of natural causes.

A U.S. Navy pilot during World War II, Flint was one of the founding members of “Machal,” a group of non-Israelis who fought in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

His son says he was one of the original members of the Israeli Air Force’s first fighter squadron and helped train Israel’s first military pilots.

Flint later moved to Los Angeles and worked as an attorney.

Michael Flint says his father was a humble man who never looked for glory but was immensely proud to have served in World War II.
